Fueling up for an endurance event on a vegan diet requires a bit of planning and macronutrient knowledge so you don’t bonk out.

New Territory Fitness’ resident dietitian, Rebecca Goodrich, shared some of her tips for fueling up for an obstacle course race over at the Spartan blog, along with some of the health benefits of a vegan diet.

Remember that quality, unrefined carbs are your friends, particularly before a race. “Plant-based diets contain high-carbohydrate food sources such as whole grains, legumes, and starchy vegetables, which are the primary sources of energy used during aerobic physical activity,” Goodrich says.
