Delete Your Time Killer App – Weekly Challenge 002

Written by Joey Daoud

This week’s challenge: delete your most used app.

This will most likely be Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, a game or a messaging app. Find it. Delete it.

If you don’t think you use these apps that much, you might be in for a surprise. To see your app usage (and to figure out what’s on the chopping block), use the following instructions (this is for iOS devices).

  • Go to Settings
  • Search for Battery
  • Click on Last 7 Days
  • Click on the clock ????
  • Be amazed (and possibly horrified)

You want to focus on the on-screen time. Stuff might rank higher up than your actual most-used app due to background uploads (like Photos). Also if you do a lot of driving Maps might rank high up there. Don’t worry about those.

Worry about what’s below that. For me, it’s 1.1 hours on Instagram. That’s an hour of my week spent scrolling through other people’s photos (half of which I probably already saw on Facebook).

Now I’m not labeling this as good or bad. But if “I don’t have time” has ever popped out of your mouth (or in your head), an audit of your phone use and removing the biggest culprit is a great place to start to do what you’ve been wanting to do.

If you’re on Android you’ll need to install an app. QualityTime is a highly recommended one. Use it for a few days to build up a history and then slash and burn. However, I bet you probably have a good idea of what app you’re on all the time. Delete it.

At the end of the week, if you don’t feel like much improved and you miss the app, add it back.

So, what’s your most commonly used app?
